Dental X Ray Radiation FAQs

While eating a banana, you are exposed to a very small amount of radiation that comes from potassium. Dental X-rays also give you about the same amount of radiation as eating a few bananas.

A few minutes exposure to sunlight gives more natural radiation than a dental X-ray. The radiation you are exposed to during a short airplane flight is several times higher than having dental X rays for a whole month.

Thanks to new digital technology, modern X-rays use up to 90% less radiation and produce clearer, more detailed diagnostic images. X-rays are taken only when they are clinically necessary.

During X-ray procedures, dentists are required to follow strict safety measures such as wearing lead aprons and thyroid collars, and they must carefully adhere to the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).

In conclusion, during a dental X-ray, you are exposed to a very minimal and controlled amount of radiation, and its benefits in diagnosing dental issues greatly outweigh any risks. Dental X-rays help protect your oral and overall health without causing harm.
