Post Operative Instructions for Complete Denture

  • ● To ensure that you feel comfortable, we will make slight adjustments to your dentures so you feel relaxed when leaving.

  • ● It is recommended to wear dentures for the whole day, as it will help us know where it is putting pressure on the gums. These pressure spots help us understand what areas to smooth on the inside of the dentures. If your follow-up appointment is not the next day, remove your dentures at night, but ensure you wear them for the full 24 hours before your appointment.

  • ● By wearing dentures as directed above, we will only work on the spots that require adjustments. The less material we need to remove, the more securely your dentures will fit against your gums. It will give better comfort and retention.

  • ● On average, it will take 2 to 3 visits for the dentures to be appropriately adjusted. And after the visit, adjustment can vary from person to person. It is recommended to wear your dentures for at least 5 days before your appointment. So, your mouth will have time to get used to it. We will lose the least material from it so that it will fit perfectly.

Guide for Adjusting Dentures

  • Give Dentures time: It will take some time for your muscles to get used to them. If you are receiving the dentures for the first time, it will take some time to speak and eat with them. Although you have worn dentures previously, it will still take some time to adjust and relax with a new set.

  • Like your new shoes require a break-in period to fit your feet. Similarly, your new dentures require time to adjust to your mouth.

  • To make your oral muscles adapt quickly, it is recommended to use adhesive only if needed.

  • Moreover, implants are used to keep your dentures in place. To make the dentures more secure, we first place the implant and then adjust the dentures according to it.

How to Care for Your Denture

  • ● To keep your dentures clean, it is recommended to clean them with a wet toothbrush.

  • ● To stimulate blood flow to the gum and prevent bacterial growth, it is recommended to brush your gums gently.

  • ● Use a glass or a container filled with a mixture of water and baking soda to store your dentures.

  • ● You can also use denture cleaners available in the market, but using baking soda to clean dentures is a safer and chemical-free solution.

  • ● Soaking the dentures overnight in water will keep them hydrated. Dentures that are dehydrated are more prone to breakage.
