Pre Operative Instructions for Your Crown

Getting ready for a dental crown? Following the right Pre Operative Instructions for Your Crown can make your treatment smooth, quick, and stress-free. If you have any questions before your visit, feel free to call us at (512) 863-7561

At Georgetown TX dentist, we want our patients to feel relaxed and comfortable during their crown or bridge appointment. To ensure the procedure goes smoothly and successfully, we recommend thoroughly reviewing the following instructions

Pre Operative Instructions for Your Crown

  • ● It is important to eat a normal meal before your appointment.

  • ● It is highly recommended to have a light meal right before your appointment. After the procedure, you cannot eat right away, as the numbing will make it uncomfortable. However, you will be able to eat once the numbing wears off.

  • ● Do not have chewing gum or any sticky food before your appointment

Medications

  • ● Do not skip your regular medications unless you are instructed otherwise.

  • ● Any medication prescribed for the appointment, such as antibiotics or any special medications, should be taken as directed by the dentist in georgetonw tx.

Oral Hygiene

  • ● Before your appointment, follow your regular oral routine, such as brushing and flossing. Maintaining a good oral hygiene routine will help prevent infections.

  • ● Avoid using whitening toothpaste or products close to your appointment, as they won’t impact your new restoration.

Health Updates

  • ● Before your appointment, let your dentist know if you are pregnant or have any other medical condition, such as heart disease, or even if you are not well or have a cold or the flu.

  • ● It is highly recommended that any allergy to medication or any dental material should be reported to your dental caregiver before the appointment.

Temporary Crowns/Bridges

  • ● During the preparation visit, our dentist will place a temporary crown or bridge. This bridge is made to protect your tooth till you get your final restoration.

  • ● You will be provided instructions to care for your temporary bridge during the appointment.

Avoid Smoking and Alcohol

  • ● It is highly recommended to avoid smoking or drinking alcohol for at least several hours before the appointment. Alcohol and smoking can delay healing and may alter your body’s response to the procedure.

What should you expect from the appointment

  • ● To make sure you are comfortable, the site of the procedure will be numbed using local anesthesia.

  • ● Initially, our dentist will either shape your tooth/teeth or take digital or traditional impressions, and if required, a temporary crown or bridge will also be placed during the appointment.

  • ● The final crown or bridge that is customized and made in the dental lab will be fitted during the second visit.

Next Step and Aftercare Instructions:

You will be provided with instructions about how to take care of your temporary crown or bridge at the end of your appointment. The instructions include avoiding eating hard, sticky, or chewy foods, or a guide to care and clean the area around your temporary restorations, and also what to do if the temporary bridge loosens. A follow-up appointment to fit the final crown or bridge will also be scheduled during the first appointment.
